ENGIM International, NGO
ENGIM was founded in Italy on 6th December 1977 to support vocational training activities.In 1988 ENGIM became a registered non-governmental organisation (NGO) to promote development cooperation all over the world. Ever since, the organisation has been involved in arranging co-finance for development projects in the third world countries, public awareness on issues and development, educational support, emergency relief, livelihood assistance, rehabilitation of refugees, providing for volunteer services, etc.
Vision
Our aim is the promotion of activities concerning vocational training and the improvement of the value of human resources, especially in favour of young and disadvantaged people.Particular attention is paid to guarantee the interaction among all the involved actors. Cohesion is achieved by close cooperation among schools, local authorities, small and medium enterprises and civil society's associations.
Mission
ENGIM is an NGO engaged in the development of educational and social projects, programmes of education for development and the international cooperation to development, aiming at increasing the spiritual, educational, cultural, social, political and charity dimensions of the human work.
Strategies
Promoting the development and the growth of human beings, in particular young, through spiritual, cultural, technical and vocational training. Implementing actions for the education and the work integration, addressing beneficiaries in risk of cultural, professional and social marginalisation, coming in particular from poor countries and the poorest urban suburbs. Working for the promotion of the human dignity, women's rights, environmental issues, the right to sustainable development, in collaboration with social workers, beneficiaries and local communities because there cannot be development without sharing and self-education. Working in partnerhip for a more coherent and sustainable development. Implementing actions in respect of the law through the financial support of public and private institutions and fund-raising activities.

In Italy
In Italy ENGIM develops its activities through 20 different territorial bodies and is actively involved in EU programmes such as : LEONARDO, SOCRATES, INTEGRA: 13 Vocational centres throughout the Italian territory: Pinerolo (TO), Nichelino (TO), Turin, Bergamo, Vicenza, Thiene (VI), Treviso, Oderzo (TV), Mirano (VE), Ravenna, Cesena (FO), Rome, Rossano (CS), Cefalù (PA), S. Agata (ME) 1 Centre of studies in Padua 6 regional co-ordination centres
Our main activities in Italy deal with:
First Education: Towards students at the end of compulsory school or college drop-outs. They are daylight courses in partnership with provincial and regional authorities. This kind of training may last two years corresponding to 2200 hours, or one year cooresponding to 1100 hours for specialization activities .
Workers training: Toward young people and adults who want to be re-qualified or improve update their skills in order to keep updated with technological evolution in different production segments. Most of training activities in this case is carried out during evening time. The courses offered covers one (600 hours) or two years (1200 hours)
Activities for disabled people: Toward disabled students, who are supported while attending ordinary school curricula and for recovery of their autonomy and for labour insertion through specific courses. Main activities has been implemented in our centres of Nichelino and Ravenna.The specific courses offered covers 4 year (1000 hours each year)
Orientation activity:This is a service offered to young people attending secondary schools in order to support students in the choice of their future career.
Relation with the territory: Local development analysis for integrated training curricula planning, meeting with local professional needs Research and personnel recruitment, meeting between job demand and offer Financing research according to training and development needs of small and medium enterprises Counselling in human resources management field, quality system implementation, environmental system and management control. Stages and training Support and job training toward young people according to their vocation and labour market.
International Cooperation
Abroad ENGIM has developed strong partnership with several counterparts in:Albania, Romania, India, Guinea Bissau, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Mali, Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Brasil, Argentina. Our main interventions have been oriented to: the preparation of new educational and vocational training programmes· the improvement or expansion of existing courses· the creation of new teaching aids· the food self-sufficiency the building of infrastructures (laboratories, stores, water wells, etc.)· the supply of technical equipment· revenue generating activities, especially for youth and women agricultural development advocay on human rights issues
Other activities
Public awareness and training of global and development issues Public awareness, information and training activities concerning development issues have been implemented towards both students and people. Our effort is to update training curricula taking into account problems and needs concerning globalisation and imbalance among northern and southern countries of the world. This is also a way to prepare new operators in international cooperation field for the future.
Fair trade“Bottega del Mondo – ENGIM” was born in June 2002 with the aim of promoting fair trade in order to support a better world and more dignity for developing countries craftsman. It represents an opportunity to conjugate respect for different cultures and spread of new knowledge around Italy and to support a solidaristic exchange network.
Voluntary Civil Service The aim of ENGIM's Civil service project is to involve young people in international cooperation activities, supporting their human and professional growth and giving them operative skills that can be also used after the end of the service.
Child and small projects sponsorshipAt the moment there are around 2000 sponsorship project supported by ENGIM.Thanks to the cooperation of 1000 groups of people, ENGIM can help a child to study or a vocational centre to keep on training students in developing countries.More than that, these activities are also the first step towards more complex projects, aiming at playing a meaningful role in the local development.

In 1996 ENGIM signed an agreement together with, Albanian Ministry of labour and Italian Embassy in Tirana in order to purse common objectives in vocational training sectors. As a consequence of that agreement ENGIM has been implementing an integrated project for promotion of social and training activities in the town of FIER in SOUTH ALBANIA.
Accreditation And Cooperation Agreements
Information on accreditation and cooperation agreements, etc. with other international organisations and with EU Member States:- ENGIM is recognized as NGO by Italian Ministry for Foreign Affairs (MAE) according to the terms of Art. 8 of Law No. 49/87. (DM nr. 2000/337/003110/4 of 11th July 2000) ENGIM is recognized by the Italian Ministry of Labour according to the terms of Law 40/87 concerning the implementation of vocational training activities in Italy. ENGIM is recognized by several Italian Regional Government in order to implement vocational training activities (PIEMONTE Regional Government, VENETO Regional Government, LAZIO Regional Government, EMILIA ROMAGNA Regional Government, CALABRIA Regional Government, SICILIA Regional Government) ENGIM is registered as international non-governmental organisation (NGO) in Sierra Leone |
